This movie was one of the best movies I've seen in a long time. And to think I didn't even really want to watch it. I figured it was a "war movie" like all the other movies he likes to watch.
Here's what IMDB.com says about the movie... "Jewish brothers in Nazi-occupied Eastern Europe escape into the Belarussian forests, where they join Russian resistance fighters and endeavor to build a village in order to protect themselves and about 1,000 Jewish non-combatants."
Basically, the movie is about the Bielski Brothers, who escape being murdered by German Nazis during the Holocaust. They flee to the forest to seek shelter and protection. And when word starts spreading through the Jewish communities of the brothers, Jewish people start seeking them out to band together to survive. The Jewish people lived in the forest for probably around 3 years, maybe even more. The movie is about the trials, tribulations, struggles, suppression, triumphs, and achievements of the Jewish people who lived in the community in the Belarussian forest. At the end of the movie (or by doing extra research) you find out that the Bielski Brothers help save 1,200 + Jewish people from the German Nazis.
